Salamanca

Salamanca

Salamanca is Madrid’s more upscale neighborhood!

It is home to the American and Canadian embassies as well as numerous high-end shops. Additionally, a majority of the neighborhood’s population come from affluent families. As such, rental rates can be quite steep as compared to other neighborhoods.  That being said, It is also a very traditional neighborhood of Madrid, where you can really get the real Madrid feeling. Many expats that move Madrid for professional reasons choose Salamanca as it is authentic, very secure and well connected to the city center and to Madrid’s business district.

The area is full of elegant apartments, and even more elegant shops. It is close to the Paseo de la Castellana, one of the big avenues that crosses Madrid from north to south, and to Plaza Colon. Here there are many museums, such as the Museo Sorolla, and all kinds of up-market stores. You can enjoy plenty of bars, restaurants, art and architecture. Traffic is not too heavy and parking is slightly easier than in other districts. The area is well-connected to the underground. If you do not mind the price tag, Salamanca is perfect for you if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the busier neighborhoods.

You will like this if you:

  • like calmer areas.
  • like shopping.
  • want an “upper class” Madrid experience.
  • have a higher budget and you’re prepared to pay a higher cost of living.
